    20. Prove that the length of the latus rectum of a parabola is |4p|.

    30. Find the vertex, focus, an equation of the axis, and an equation of the directrix of the parabola. Draw a sketch of the parabola: 3y^2 - 8x - 12y - 4 = 0.

    40. Find an equation of the parabola having the given properties: End points of the latus rectum are (1,3) and (7,3). Draw a sketch of the parabola.

    42. Assume that water issuing from the end of a horizontal pipe 25 ft above the ground describes a parabolic curve, the vertex of the parabola being at the end of the pipe. If at a point 8 ft below the line of the pipe the flow of water has curved outward 10 ft beyond a vertical line through the end of the pipe, how far beyond this vertical line will the water strike the ground?
Physics
  • Answer End of Chapter 20 Problem 45 (Serway). Submit on 1/2 crosswise.
    45. A bar of gold is in contact with a bar of silver of the same length and area. One end of the compound bar is maintained at 80.0 degrees Celsius, while the opposite end is at 30.0 degrees Celsius. When the rate of energy transfer by conduction reaches steady state, what is the temperature at the the junction?
